Families can support a program when they understand what the class is learning and why it matters. Share one clear purpose, an accurate observation, and one realistic way to support learning. Avoid promised results, public comparisons, and long explanations after every class.
Begin with the lesson, not a generic announcement
Open the correct class, curriculum, and week in the Teaching Studio. Review the lesson focus and the Share with families section. Older videos may call this Parent Corner or Family connection. Use the current lesson text rather than inventing a paid lesson’s theme from memory.
Explain the foundation or learning purpose in plain language. For example, a general class update might say: “Dancers practiced responding to musical cues. We will revisit the foundation with clearer timing next class.” Only use an example when it accurately describes what your class did; it is not a statement about a particular Levels week.
Create a draft with Explain it to families
On an entitled lesson page, find Need help adapting this lesson? and choose Plan with Levels.
Choose Explain it to families and select the correct Class.
Add a short general teaching note if useful. Do not enter dancer names, scores, completed assessment results, private family details, diagnoses, or medical information.
Choose Create plan and read the Family message draft. Check its accuracy, tone, learning focus, and any claims before using it.
To change the draft, choose Edit plan, edit the Family message, and choose Save revision. If keeping an unedited draft, choose Save plan.
Saving keeps the reviewed plan in teaching history/My Teaching. It does not email parents, post to a group, send a notification, record dancer results, or mark the class lesson taught. Share the reviewed message yourself through the studio’s approved family-communication channel.
If the planner says No matching class is assigned, check class setup and assignment with the studio owner or administrator, or contact Levels about your personal teaching workspace. Do not use another person’s account to work around it.
Keep the message honest and encouraging
Describe what the class practiced and the next teaching focus.
Explain that purposeful repetition develops control, timing, understanding, and independence; repeating a foundation is not failure.
Give families one supportive question or a teacher-reviewed practice idea from the lesson.
Do not guarantee advancement, confidence, retention, or a result by a fixed date.
Discuss individual concerns or assessment feedback privately with authorized caregivers under the studio’s process. Keep dancer-specific records outside the portal and out of the planner and support chat.
Follow your studio’s sharing plan and membership terms
Studio instructors should follow the owner’s family-communication plan. Use handouts or curriculum material only when your current account permissions and plan terms allow the intended printing or distribution. Individual instructor memberships have different resource access; a visible viewer is not a blanket sharing license.
