A preschool hip hop class benefits from a predictable routine, short activity segments, frequent musical cues, and simple transitions. Keep the overall order consistent even when songs, games, and movements change.
Prepare the room before dancers enter
Set out floor spots or another clear place marker.
Choose a consistent location for water and personal items.
Check shoes according to studio policy.
Prepare music and props before class begins.
Remove trip hazards and confirm the room suits the planned movement.
A suggested 30 minute class flow
Use these flexible planning ranges rather than trying to fit every maximum into one class. Adjust them so the total matches your actual class length.
Welcome and settle in: 2–3 minutes.
Follow-along warm-up: about 5 minutes.
Traveling or floor-pattern activity: 4–5 minutes.
One or two skills: 7–8 minutes.
Game or theme: 4–5 minutes.
Dance circle and wrap-up: 3–5 minutes.
For a 45-minute class, lengthen the warm-up, skill practice, and game sections without changing the order. Add a water break when appropriate. These are teaching-planning examples, not a movement-specific safety protocol.
Keep teaching language active
Preschool dancers often respond more quickly to a demonstration, image, or movement cue than to a long explanation. Show the movement, name it briefly, repeat it, and move on before attention fades.
Preserve choice and follow studio procedures
Never force a dancer into the circle or into physical contact. Offer a pass or edge participation. Follow your studio’s safeguarding, inclusion, facility, and emergency procedures, and adapt movement to the room, dancers, and instructor qualifications.
